The 13th annual Miss Los Fresnos Scholarship Pageant, “A Red Carpet Affair,” was held Saturday, February 17, 2007, under the direction of Mrs. Debra Badeaux. Jackie Kyger served as Master of Ceremonies. This year’s contestants were Tiffany Atkinson, Melissa Sanchez, Candice Clark, Layshauni Rodriguez, Bianca Sanchez, Jessenia San Luis and Ashley Silva. Many participants go on to compete in other pageants. A former Miss Los Fresnos, Elizabeth Sanchez, competed in the 2004 Miss Texas Pageant, placing in the top twenty out of 135 cities. Young ladies attending Los Fresnos High School who meet the U.I.L. grade point average are eligible for the Pageant. Scholarship funds are presented to the winner after she has registered at the college of her choice. Miss Los Fresnos serves as an ambassador to the City of Los Fresnos, attending groundbreakings and ribbon cuttings as well as other community events. She is required to do volunteer work in the community; reading during the summer Library program, serving lunches at the Senior Citizen Center and helping out at the Chamber office. With the help and support of area businesses, the local school district and a dedicated community, the Miss Los Fresnos Scholarship Pageant improves every year. |
